LWVAAC continues its 2024 Symposium series at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024 with a virtual discussion of current transportation policy and practice in Anne Arundel County.
Whether you have your own means of transportation or rely on public transit, your daily life is impacted by transportation. Transportation gives people the freedom to move around and travel. It enables us to get to work, go to school, shop, and socialize. Despite its drawbacks (traffic, accidents, construction and pollution, to name a few), transportation is desirable and necessary.
Inadequate public transportation has been an issue in Anne Arundel County for decades. This has contributed to increased poverty in parts of the county because lower income residents need public transit to access job and educational opportunities, food, health care and community resources.
On Thursday, February 22, Mr. Sam Snead, Director of the County Department of Transportation, will speak to these issues as he shares with us the challenges and goals of his department. He will explain Move Anne Arundel, the County's recently adopted Transportation Master Plan, and Vision Zero, a county study focused on accessibility and safety. Hopefully, he can also guide us to ways in which we can be helpful.
Please plan to join us and share your own concerns and questions about local transportation. We'll conclude by evaluating whether the League has a public policy position that addresses the issues and supports our goals. [Click here to review the current LWVAAC transportation position.]
