The end of summer vacation signals the beginning of LWVAAC's 2025-26 program year. Our Fall Welcome Back social offers League members and friends the chance to meet and catch up, get a bite to eat, learn about plans for the year, and discuss a current topic of interest:

Recent federal policy and actions have put immigrants to the United States in the spotlight. Alison Flores, Director of Anne Arundel County Office of Multicultural Affairs, will talk about the economic and social impact of deportations and the ways in which the County is meeting the needs of communities affected by ICE. There will be time for questions from the audience.

About our speaker: Alison Flores joined Anne Arundel County Government after serving as the Deputy Director for Prince George’s County Office of Community Relations. She is professional in communications, public relations, and governmental affairs, and is dedicated to ensuring political, social, and economic inclusion of diverse communities. Alison previously served as the Latino Affairs Liaison with the Prince George’s County Executive, where she was responsible for engaging the Latino community and working with key stakeholders to ensure that Latino residents have access to government services and programs. Alison holds a Sociology degree from Catholic University of America in Washington DC.

Following the adoption of a national LWV position on immigration in 2008, the League of Women Voters of Anne Arundel County (LWVAAC) undertook a 2-year local study. LWVAAC members reached consensus on a local immigration position and outlook for work in 2010. The study materials and analysis gathered by our local League are available for review here.
