Seminar Approach to Reclaiming Discourse

Virtual biweekly 4-part series: Wednesdays, May 19, June 2, 16, 30

10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom

“Civil Conversations: Visionaries and Disruptors” is a four-part virtual discussion program based on brief texts that are chosen to raise timeless questions, promote an exchange of views, and enable us to practice the essential communication skills of thinking critically, speaking clearly, listening actively, and respecting the ideas of others. The readings relate to life in America and obliquely, but not overtly, to present-day politics. Participants will come away refreshed, with reinvigorated thinking and collaborative skills that will serve them well in future actions.

Registration required. Limited to 12 participants. Registration deadline: Wednesday, May 12.

Group size will be limited to facilitate conversation. Registration will be on a first come first served basis. Please mark your calendar for the four scheduled dates of the series. No preparation is required for the discussions but participants must be able to access the Zoom app with video and audio connections. Zoom reminders and readings will be sent by email to participants before each session.

The program is led by LWVAAC member Cynthia Barry. Ms. Barry is an adjunct instructor with the Anne Arundel Community College, Center for Lifelong Learning. She has a M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College, Annapolis, and is a certified Touchstones Discussion leader.
