Harvard Case Study: Madison's Federal Negative

James Madison, framer of the Constitution

If you were drafting the Constitution, how much power would you give the federal government over the states?

Madison’s Federal Negative and the Making of the Constitution

Take part in a lively community discussion led by AACPS faculty

Demonstrating the Harvard Case Study Method, Anne Arundel County Public School teachers Christina Sipe (Broadneck High School) and Seth Wolak (South River High School) will engage participants in a pivotal debate at the Constitutional Convention of 1787.

The Harvard Case Method requires individuals to walk in the shoes of decision-makers by considering all facts within the contexts of time. We invite you to come prepared to discuss the provided case materials, think critically, and learn more about our American Democracy.

After registering, you will receive a zoom link for the meeting and access to the case study materials. For more information, email [email protected].

    Annual Retreat

LWVAAC members at the 2022 Annual Retreat in Lake Waterford ParkLWVAAC's Annual Retreat is an informal membership meeting that serves a vital purpose. At Retreat, we plan our League's calendar of activities for the coming year, assign leadership responsibility and recruit team participation based on individual member's interests and availability. Retreat is also our time to think creatively about the future. What do we want LWVAAC to look like in five years and how do we advance toward that goal?  Equally important, Retreat is an opportunity to meet and share a meal with other members, to ask questions, make suggestions, and build friendships.

This year's Retreat will be held at an outdoor pavilion. We will conduct a brief but important Board meeting to appoint new directors, break for a picnic lunch and then launch into the Retreat. Participants will have their choice of a variety of Panera box lunches, for a suggested $10 voluntary contribution, or may provide their own. This is a BYOB event (non-alcoholic only, per park regulations). Seating will be at picnic benches, so you may want to bring a folding chair or pillow.

Check back here to review the Retreat agenda when it is available.

RSVP by June 10 to reserve a Panera boxed lunch. After you have RSVP'd, you will be able to make your selection, or you can email [email protected] with your choice. See options below.
